Most everyone knows about the full-sized Transit camper conversion vans, but the smaller Transit Connect is a great little vehicle that occasionally gets the van life treatment, too – and this is one of those. Along with a high-roof conversion, this camper manages to pack a 2-person convertible dinette, a sink, refrigerator, toilet, and shower inside! Not only that, there’s a propane camp stove tucked into the side of the body that allows for outdoor cooking under a roll-out awning.
2011 Ford Transit Connect XLT Camper, finished in Frozen White with a custom interior.
Factory equipment includes 15-inch steel wheels, anti-lock brakes, cloth upholstery, power windows and locks, air conditioning, and an AM/FM/CD stereo.
Outfitted by PeeWee Campers, a partial list of modifications includes a high roof with vent, a roll-out awning, external lighting, an externally-mounted propane camp stove, a 2-person convertible dinette, refrigerator, microwave, sink, toilet, shower, and dual 6V batteries.
The Focus-based Transit Connect first went on sale in Europe in 2002, but didn’t make its way to the U.S. until 2009. Since then, it has seen extensive use in various commercial applications as an economical alternative to the full-sized Transit. Production ended in 2012 when it was replaced by the second-generation model.
Power comes from a 2.0-liter “Duratec” inline-4, rated at 136 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the front wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission.
