I love the 996 Porsche 911, as I find it to be a thrilling version of the car – and a bargain at today’s prices. This particular 996 is very different from a usual one, though, as it boasts a General Motors “LQ4” 6.0-liter V8 engine swap mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The result is an improvement on reliability and low-end torque, along with a truly amazing story to tell – and a car that will upset purists everywhere you go.
2000 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, finished in Arctic Silver with a blue soft top and a Metropol Blue interior.
Modifications to this Porsche are extensive, and the full list is shown below. Highlights include a swapped 6.0-liter GM V8 with numerous upgrades, a new clutch and flywheel, electric power steering, Yellow Speed Racing coilover suspension, a full 996.2 Turbo front end conversion, 19-inch 997 alloy wheels, and a Pioneer double-DIN head unit.
Factory equipment includes leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, remote keyless entry, power windows and locks, and more as detailed below.
Porsche introduced the 996-generation 911 for the 1999 model year. It was the first water-cooled 911, and it stood out from its predecessors with a new-look front end that ditched the round lights. The line-up grew to include coupe, convertible, and Targa models plus numerous variants ranging from the base Carrera to the track-ready GT2.
Power comes from a 6.0-liter “LQ4” V8 engine, which is rated at 300 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque in stock form. Due to the modifications performed to this engine, it may produce more power, but a dyno sheet was not provided to confirm. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission.
